Frequently asked questions

What is the glossary for?

The glossary is the term list: one short definition per word, in the order stored in the file. The heading is the term; the sentence under it is the meaning. It does not walk through a task.

How do I access the dark web and .onion links?

Install Tor Browser from torproject.org — not a random “dark web browser” bundle. The Tor Browser setup guide covers download, signatures, and security levels. Then use the link directory or the market catalog.

How current is the information on the website?

We update the site weekly so it stays accurate, relevant, and useful. How often a given page changes still depends on the material, press, and whether new data is available.

How are the link directory and the market catalog different?

The link directory groups recorded services: mail, privacy tools, search, whistleblowing, and the rest. The market catalog is a separate list — a name, a status, and tags. A row there is a catalog entry, not a shop.

What is a guide on this site?

A guide is the longer article, including Tor Browser setup. A title on that list opens the article. The glossary is the short definition of a word.

Is Torbible a darknet marketplace?

No. It is an encyclopedia and directory. We do not sell goods, hold escrow, or run a shop. Escrow on a catalog card is a tag, not protection — see escrow systems.

Does Torbible work without JavaScript?

Yes. The site is static HTML and CSS: no analytics, no cookies, no client scripts. It is meant to load cleanly in Tor Browser with JavaScript disabled.

How do I access the darknet safely?

Install Tor Browser from torproject.org, verify the signature, then raise the security level. Full walkthrough: Tor Browser setup. After that, the onion links directory.

Do I need a VPN to use Tor?

Usually no. A random VPN can add a log point. Read Tor vs VPN before you stack extra hops.

What should I read before opening a market?

Phishing detection, OPSEC fundamentals, and escrow systems, then the market catalog. Torbible is not a marketplace.

Does a market “Escrow” tag mean my coins are safe?

No. It means our file records that the name is described as using a hold. Traditional escrow dies with an exit scam. Read escrow systems and Bitcoin vs Monero.

Is there Tor Browser for iPhone?

No. Apple requires WebKit, so the Tor Project does not ship Tor Browser for iOS. They point to Onion Browser, with weaker fingerprint defenses. Android has an official Tor Browser. Read Tor on mobile.

What is Tails for?

A Tor-first live USB that forgets the session on shutdown, with optional encrypted persistence. It does not run on phones and does not fix hostile firmware. Read Tails live USB.

Which Tor Browser security level should I use?

Standard for ordinary sites that need scripts, Safer to cut JavaScript on HTTP, Safest when you can live with static pages. Extra add-ons break the shared fingerprint. Details: security levels.

How do I know an onion link is real?

Compare all 56 characters against a source you already trusted, then a PGP signature whose fingerprint did not arrive on the same page. Directories are catalogs, not oracles. See verified onion links and PGP.

Does Tor make me anonymous or is it illegal?

The browser is generally lawful in the EU; crime stays crime. Tor separates network observers — it does not hide accounts or extra apps. Myths and limits: Tor myths and Is Tor legal?.

How many darknet markets are active in 2026?

This catalog currently lists 12 active names plus historical entries. Status and tags (2FA, PGP, escrow, coins) come from our files. Profiles: darknet markets directory.

Does Torbible publish live market .onion addresses?

A card shows an address only when that string is already in our catalog file. 10 of 12 active names have one on file today. We do not invent market addresses. Cross-check any other mirror against a PGP canary.

How should I treat a market mirror I found on another wiki?

Treat it as untrusted. Phishing clones reuse names and listing counts. Read phishing detection and OPSEC fundamentals before you open a new .onion.

Where can I find onion links that are not market shops?

This directory lists 47 service entries. 16 .onion strings — mail, press SecureDrop, and search — are already in our files. Open the onion links directory. Shop names are on the markets hub.

Why do some cards have no .onion address?

If the maintained directory has no address record, we leave the card without one. We do not mint placeholders that look like live mirrors.

Which darknet forums does Torbible list?

The directory names Breaking Bad, Darknet Army, Dread, ENDCHAN, OnionForum, Suprbay, Tenebris, The Stock Insiders, and Zeroday, with type, access, and registration in the comparison table. See the darknet forums directory.

Does every forum have an onion address here?

9 of 9 entries include an onion already stored in our forum file. We do not scrape competing wikis or invent mirrors.

Are forum DMs safe for market URLs?

No. Treat messages as stored on someone else’s disk. Do not follow user-supplied onions. Use OPSEC fundamentals and the market catalog for context, not a single PM.
